Dartmouth Food Festival, South Devon - October 21st to 24th - now in its seventh year just grows and grows in popularity and this year we are delighted that several top local companies are sponsoring particular events and whose support we are honoured to have as they make the Festival what it is today. Our primary sponsor is Riverford, who are sponsoring our Children's Festival and the Audience with Mitch Tonks on Thursday 21st as well as being present at all other Festival events.
Mitch Tonks the Festival Advocate adds, “It’s great to see so many companies getting involved and supporting the Dartmouth Food Festival through their sponsorship and expertise. I think what’s different about our event is that we’re actively working to ensure that any investment reaps real commercial benefit for sponsors, Dartmouth and South Devon as a whole. By bringing in nationally recognised chefs and producers, and by promoting their presence via Twitter, Facebook and our websites, we’ve created a tremendous buzz already – which doubtless has had a positive impact on hotel, restaurant and self-catering bookings in the area”
The following world class chefs will be joining Mitch for cookery demonstrations, book signings and discussions including Mark Hix, Valentine Warner, Josceline & Henry Dimbleby, Xanthe Clay, Diana Henry, Miranda Gardiner, Rosemary Barron, Tom Herbert, David and Holly Jones, Tim Bouget, Nathan Thomas, Alan Murchison, Guy Watson and Jane Baxter and wine connoisseurs Fiona Beckett and Suzy Atkins amongst others…phew!
This year’s joint main sponsors are Coast & Country Cottages and Blue Chip Vacations - Coast and Country are sponsoring the South Embankment and Avenue Gardens on 23rd/24th October and running the Coated & Crunchy biscuit decorating activity whilst Blue Chip Vacations are sponsoring the Market for the 23rd/24th October with 100 local food and drink producers and the Dartmouth Castle Wine Tasting with Fiona Beckett and Liam Stevenson. Visit South Devon are the Area Tourism Partnership and official marketing organisation for South Devon and they are sponsoring South Devon Crab day on the South Embankment on Friday 22nd and our new local MP for Totnes Sarah Wollaston will be taking part in a crab workshop.
Dartmouth’s own sponsors include the Dart Marina Hotel & Spa who are sponsoring the Festival Quiz and the ‘Naughty but Nice’ event at the Flavel on 22nd October and have supported the Dartmouth Food Festival since it began. Hooper & Wollen, will be sponsoring the Supporter’s Reception on 19th October at St Clements Church. Café Alfrescos are as always Festival stalwarts and for the sixth year in a row they are very kindly providing the venue and the food for the Food Festival Quiz this year with our special quiz master Henry Dimbleby.
A huge cheers must also go to Liam Stevenson of Red & White Wines who are very kindly providing the wine and expertise for the Dartmouth Castle Wine Tastings 22nd/23rd October and running the South West Wine Challenge on 22nd October. Others who must be clapped very hard on the back are as always Manna from Devon’s David and Holly Jones who basically run the Festival, Sue Wiles of Wily Marketing, Serin Aubrey of Anzac Street Bistro, the Royal Castle Hotel, Browns Hotel, Cherub Consultancy, Philip Watts, Elaine Day and Badger PR .
There are literally countless things to do and see at Dartmouth Food Festival - taste food prepared by Michelin-starred chefs, learn new skills as you watch Mitch Tonks, Mark Hix, Valentine Warner in action prepare mouth-watering treats for all and as if that wasn’t enough to whet your appetite other events include on Thursday 21st - the Childrens’ Festival and Tea Party in the Market Square; Friday 22nd - South Devon Crab Day, South West Wine Challenge at Browns Hotel, A Wild Food Walk foraging for edible goodies. On Saturday 23rd we welcome our new local MP for Totnes Sarah Wollaston taking part in a crab workshop and answering any questions on food, farming and fisheries.
