Using their funding, Love Local Food commissioned the custom-build of this new mobile shop complete with eye-catching livery. One aim of the project is to strengthen the local economy by supporting local producers, and this build has been carried out with that in mind.

Only independent Devon companies such as Trucksmith, SeeData, Krage Design and Ken White Signs have taken part in its construction and design and, whilst the new shop will go out on both well-worn and a few newer routes, wherever it is it won’t be easily missed as it is covered in vegetables, bread, cheese, cake and sausages!

The mobile shop routes are designed to make good food as accessible as possible wherever you might be during the day. Cat Kennedy, Love Local Food’s project manager, explained that: “The idea is that whilst customers get easier access to extremely high-quality and affordable foods, they are also supporting their local producers and sustainable farms, reducing wasteful packaging and their food miles all at the same time.”

The project’s education officers, Kevin and Jo Cotter, also provide opportunities to children and adults in the area through farm visits, workshops and events. So you might see the brightly-coloured vehicle at schools, farms and fairs through the seasons too! Kevin says: “There is a huge excitement and interest in discovering your ingredients out at a local farm then preparing and eating them. Why not join in?”

Local Food Programme Manager Mark Wheddon said: “Our programme is all about making local food more accessible and affordable and this project is a great example of how this can be achieved. Love Local Food will be fun and worthwhile for everyone involved and we are very pleased to support it.”
