13th February 2012

Despite the unsettled weather, winter is a good season for fishing and 2012 is proving great so far! Our main catch at the moment is mackerel, Dover sole and plaice. Don't be shy with these wonderful fish, you can do amazing things with them, from Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall's famous mackerel bap to a mass of delicious flat fish recipes, they're very versatile and great healthy options.

We are absolutely delighted to have been chosen by Hugh-Fearnley Whittingstall and his team as a supplier of fish to the brand new River Cottage Canteen & Deli in Plymouth. In a recent interview for Devon Life (November’s issue) he said, "The best seasonal local produce is always at the heart of the River Cottage approach to cooking, and we are very much looking forward to celebrating and contributing to the vibrancy of the local food community in Plymouth.  The city and region have a strong fishing and market garden heritage, and we have a great opportunity to source the best ingredients and create some fantastic food in a wonderful location. The whole team is seriously excited."

We’re very proud to have been recognised and chosen by the River Cottage team. Proud of our standards and techniques and committed to sustainable fishing we are members of the South West Handline Fisherman's Association, an organisation that highlights the ethical, and sustainable alternatives to farmed or pair-trawl caught bass and has developed a tagging scheme to provide guaranteed 'hook to plate' traceability.
