The one thing all four directors have in common is a huge passion for chillies!  Kaz and Martin also have enormous respect for Steve’s knowledge on the subject.  Kaz says: “Steve is a chilli genius.  He has created something really amazing which has been at the forefront of a new trend in the UK.”  South Devon Chilli Farm was the first commercial chilli farm on British soil.
Both Kaz and Martin have been working in the financial sector in London in recent years and have longed for a complete lifestyle change and a move to the countryside.  Martin, who was born in Devon, has finally come home.  Adding to Kaz’s earlier comments, Martin says: “I’ve known Steve since school.  Our long standing friendship, combined with his awe inspiring enthusiasm and the way that this has been reflected in the company, made the prospect of becoming a director at South Devon Chilli Farm extremely appealing.  I’m looking forward to building on my existing love of chillies as well as helping the business grow, maintaining its number one position for chilli production in the UK and broadening its name as such on the continent.”

In addition to Kaz and Martin’s new appointments, Steve’s wife Heather has also just become a director.  Heather has played an important role in the company since its fruition in the early days.
Steve Waters, director and chilli expert at South Devon Chilli Farm, comments on the new directors joining the team: “The growth of the company over the last nine years has been incredible.  From very small beginnings it has grown to become a hugely successful business with an unbelievable number of followers and fans both nationwide and internationally.”  He continues: “With Kaz and Martin joining the company, as well as Heather becoming a director, we will be able to take South Devon Chilli Farm to the next level and continue to grow the brand at an unprecedented rate.”

The directors’ vision is to continue to grow South Devon Chilli Farm through increased business in quality independent and speciality shops both in the UK and abroad.
Passionate about keeping its products as natural as possible, South Devon Chilli Farm doesn’t use any ‘nasties’ in the growing process or in the cooking.  All the chillies and products are herbicide, pesticide and additive free.  In addition, careful consideration is taken over the subtle flavour of each chilli and how the flavour, as well as the heat, of the chilli will add to the overall taste of the individual product.  This innovative company sells a wide range of fresh and dried chillies, chilli plants, preserves, sauces and chilli chocolates.

Steve started the farm in 2003 when he constructed a single polytunnel to grow chillies in his back garden.  In the early days, he showcased the products at local farmers markets.  South Devon Chilli Farm remains true to its farmers’ market roots, still maintaining a strong presence at a great number of these in and around the south west.  This year, for the first time, South Devon Chilli Farm is extending its reach and will be exhibiting at Taste of London (Regent’s Park, 21st – 24th June 2012).
South Devon Chilli Farm’s range of products is available nationwide in delis and independent stores and is also available online at www.sdcf.co.uk.  Why not visit the South Devon Chilli Farm and see for yourself the impressive range of chillies grown and the passion that goes into the products.
