4th July 2012

Jasmine (9) and Amber (7) Tucker have raised 7 little ducklings that were orphaned back in the horrible weather last month.

They were found by the carpark attendant and brought to our cafe, The River Shack, on the millpond in Stoke Gabriel. They were at death's door, and if they'd had another five minutes out in the wind and rain none of them would of made it.

After warming them by the log fire, we took them home, borrowed a heat lamp from friends and the girls raised them. They enjoyed watering, feeding & teaching them to swim in our bath/sink. Not so keen on the mucking out though. Jasmine and Amber were desperate for a dog before, but reckon ducks are better because "You only get one dog, we've got seven ducks!!"

They have all done well and we released them back near The River Shack last week. The ducks seem to have settled in fine with the other wildlife, but will still come back to eat out of the girls hands.
