The producers will be all available to talk about their products while visitors savour, taste or buy in this beautifully wooded location. The event offers a great opportunity to get to know where your local food comes from and how to save on food miles by supporting local businesses. There will be a wide variety of produce available to taste and buy including cheeses, chutneys, beef and lamb, preserves, jams, cakes and pastries, wine and cider.

This free event, with refreshments and light lunches available, is open to both the public and commercial buyers and will be especially useful for hotels, B & B's and restaurants to source new products for their menus - 'Local Food' is definitely what visitors to the region want to eat.

As the event is to be held at the end of the summer holidays there will be entertainment for children as well as free, beautiful walks around the forest, woods and streams.

Kingsbridge Show

04-09-2010 00:00
Borough Farm , Kingsbridge

Web: www.kingsbridgeshow.co.uk/

Kingsbridge Show continues to grow whilst trying to maintain that local feel, keeping it's traditional agricultural and horticultural roots.

Horses feature strongly in the show. They have their own show field, with events running right through the day. Horse judging begins at 9am.

There is something for everyone - and so much to see and do - it's a great family day out whether you farm, ride or just want to see "a little piece of rural England" and enjoy the atmosphere.

Disabled parking is available, for badge holders, in the show field by the main ring. (This space is obviously limited and though The Show makes every effort to assist we cannot guarantee a position). Seating is provided around the show ground on benches and hay bales. There is a disabled toilet on site.

Please note that The Show is run on fields usually holding cattle - there are no specific paths or routes which do not involve traversing this grass.

Ilfracombe

This September, over the 10th, 11th and 12th, Sea Ilfracombe will launch Ilfracombes first Maritime Festival.
The programme will start with a Pirates Ball on the Friday evening where, Cloud 9, a local company, will be providing a buffet during the course of the evening.
There will be an eclectic mix of events to entertain all age groups from gig racing, whale watching, kayaking, flower festivals, rock pool rambles, street entertainers, headline acts, strolling players, choirs, Punch & Judy, guided walks, magicians and so much more.
All of this is underpinned by a celebration of locally sourced food and produce to be sampled through several guided historical food trails using a number of diverse eateries and restaurants.
Why not sample Dan the Fishman’s locally sourced seafood conjured up in a giant Paella dish, a simple barbeque at the Yacht Club, or a Tapas evening on the harbourside, to the accompaniment of Flamenco music.
Food Trail tickets will be on sale from North Devon Theatres box office. Telephone them on Barnstaple 01271 324 242. The full programme of events can be seen on their website or through the local press.

Brixham Fishstock Festival

11-09-2010 00:00
Brixham Harbour

Web: www.seatorbay.org.uk

Fishstock Brixham 2010 is a one-day festival that combines music and seafood. The event is to be held on Saturday September 11th 2010 from 11am to Midnight. The main aim is to raise much-needed funds for the Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen. (Registered Charity No. 232822). After a break during the multi-million pound Torbay Council investment and building project at the Fish Market and quayside, the 2010 event follows the pattern of the successful inauguration in 2008. Apart from static displays and demonstrations, the event will feature two stages. The music line-up has not yet been confirmed for 2010, but the public will be treated to a "boat-to-throat" experience of the fishing and seafood industries with displays of boats, fishing gear, seafood preparation and cooking and much more entertainment for all the family.
2-a-week is the message for fish lovers and healthy eaters. The event captures the essence of Brixham with local seafood products cooked by local expert chefs, while local musicians and artists provide the entertainment. Many displays for local food and drink producers, maritime businesses and marine environment NGOs, fishing technology and techniques, beach and boat safety.

The advance entry price will be £5 for age 15 and over. OAPs and under 15s FREE.

Getting there
Avoid congestion by using sustainable transport: Bus No.12, Western Lady Ferry from Torquay, or the Park and Ride from Churston.

Yalumba Wine Tasting Yalumba Wine Tasting 14th September

We are delighted to be able to host an evening with Jane Ferrari who is the world-wide advocate for Yalumba wines.

What is a world-wide advocate? Jane travels for half the year to Europe, The Americas and Asia promoting Australia's oldest family wine producer (160yrs!) with the press and public. In the past Jane was a wine maker and so has the technical as well as commercial judgement to tell their story brilliantly.

Why might you want to talk to Jane? You will not find a better informed or more interesting wine enthusiast. Her knowledge about all things Australian -the past, present and future of their industry combined with her views from around the world give her a unique window into today's wine industry.

Why Browns? A few years ago we took the decision to buy our Australian wines only from Yalumba or one of their partner family businesses.

As a consequence, and despite ours being a small restaurant and bar, they are happy to let us spend time with their wine makers.

We also sell quite a lot of Jansz! We love their flagship Virgillius Viognier - not many people are allowed to stock it, they make so little! So we get a little bit of Jane from the big boys - so you can have a great evening.

The Meal
Canapes served with White Jansz

Starter Wild Sea Bass (from a big fish caught in Start Bay)
Y Series Unoaked Chardonnay
Eden Valley Wild Ferment Chardonnay

Main A joint of Ruby Red beef chosen by Mike Tozer.
The Scribbler Cabernet Shiraz
Reserve Bin FDR1A Cabernet Shiraz

Dessert A choice of desserts
Hand Picked Botrytis Viognier

Jane has asked that the starters and mains have a hint of fusion cooking so that you can appreciate them through Australian eyes!

The Evening
We'll meet at 7pm for canapes and an informal chat with Jane. Dinner will be served at 7:30pm.

Jane will talk between courses and will move around during the meal so that everyone can get a chance to talk to her. After the meal we will run a wine tasting competition called "The Options Game". We have some fun prizes!

The Wines
Everyone is familiar with our Janz Rose, so we have chosen their white equivalent as a nice contrast to our most popular wine.

We've chosen a couple of contrasting chardonnays to match the Sea Bass. The Y series unoaked is a well made quaffing wine matched against the more serious Eden Vally Wild Ferment Chardonnay which is lightly oaked.

The reds are both Cabinet Shiraz blends. The Scribbler is more widely available and has received rave reviews in the UK press. FDR1a is only made in exceptional vintages. Mathew Jukes puts this in his top 100 Aussy Reds. It's amazing.

The hand picked Botrytus Viognier is simply a delight and one of the best Aussy dessert wines available.
The Cost
The evening will cost £39 per head.

This will include canapes, three courses, 6 glasses of wine and "The Options Game".

That's an expensive menu, an expensive bottle of wine each, and one of the best speakers on the wine circuit for under £80 a couple! You might also win a prize!
To book, call us on 01803 832572 - places are limited, so get in quick!!
