Food & Drink Devon has teamed up with Caterfood to run a pilot distribution project. The project is funded by Devon Renaissance and aims to provide a sustainable and reliable delivery network for food producers in the South Devon area to guarantee regular delivery of their products to catering and retail food outlets across Devon, Cornwall and Somerset. The pilot will measure the costs and benefits of such a scheme which will form the basis of a business plan for roll out. The proposed service will replace the need for individual producers to run their own vehicles and free up the time spent delivering to increase the output and efficiency of their businesses. The project will provide funding to encourage the initial uptake of a centralised collection and delivery service at a cost that will not penalise the producer or distributor. Caterfood will provide a 6 day a week delivery service as demanded by the catering outlets, this in itself will increase business opportunities for the producers as Caterfood will introduce new potential customers to the scheme members through its own delivery network. The 6 producers involved in the pilot scheme are: Tea’s Me, Westcountry Spice Co., Red Rock Brewery, Manna from Devon, Dartmouth Ice Cream Company and The Small Farms Association.
